Snapper iOS app

Snapper users with iPhone 8/iOS 15 and above can instantly top up, check the balance on their Snapper cards and more – anywhere, any time, making it the perfect companion for Snapper cards. Simply sign in to your existing Snapper account, then follow instructions to scan a Snapper card by holding it flat to the phone.

Topping up using the app

Once you’ve downloaded and set up the Snapper Mobile app on your iPhone, topping up or buying a travel pass is secure, fast and easy.  Here’s how you do it:

  1. Following the in-app instructions, scan your Snapper card by holding it to the back of your phone. Your card number, balance, and top-up option will appear.
  2. Use the dial (or tap the displayed top-up amount) to select the amount you want to add to your Snapper balance, and tap CONFIRM TOP-UP.
  3. Enter your credit or debit card details (we accept Visa and MasterCard).
  4. After you have confirmed the purchase, follow the in-app instructions to collect your top-up by selecting ‘scan your Snapper card’ and holding it to the back of your phone.
  5. After you complete the transaction, you will have the option of saving your card details and protecting them with a 4-digit PIN. This makes it a lot faster to top up.

Buying a travel pass using the app

  1. Following the in-app instructions, scan your Snapper card by holding it to the back of your phone. Your card number, balance, and top-up option will appear.
  2. Select ACCOUNT at the bottom-right of the screen.
  3. Select BUY A TRAVEL PASS.
  4. Follow the displayed options to choose your travel pass, and tap BUY NOW.
  5. Enter your credit or debit card details (we accept Visa and MasterCard).
  6. After you complete the transaction, you will have the option to save your card details and protect them with a 4-digit PIN.  This makes it a lot faster to buy a pass.
  7. After you have confirmed the purchase follow the in-app instructions to collect your pass, select scan your Snapper card and hold it to the back of your phone.
  8. Your pass will activate when you next tag off.

 

 

 

Fees

Holding fee

When you save a credit card on the Snapper mobile app a $1 hold will be placed on your credit card. The hold is to validate the credit card and will be reversed within a week.

Card processing fee

When topping up your Snapper card via the app, a 1.5% card processing fee will be added by the payment provider. The card processing fee will be included in the transaction amount, but it will not be added to your balance.

Compatibility

The Snapper iOS app is compatible with iPhone 7/iOS 15 and above. Older Snapper cards (without a + in the top right corner) or Snapper Sprats may not work with this app. If you experience problems, please get in touch and we will swap out your old Snapper for a new one.

This app is designed for use in conjunction with Snapper cards to pay as you go for travel in Wellington. Snapper RideBank cards should continue to be managed through the existing RideBank app.
